Weber Cottage
This project on pleasant lake in New London, NH involved reviving what was once a quaint summer cottage but had fallen into disrepair. The new owner decided to bring the back to life and restore its charm! Along with the refresh of the cabin db redesigned the landscape to functionally and aesthetically. Large slabs of granite schist were used for the walkways, stairs and gathering spaces. The large boulders from the site were reused as landscape features and stone walls. Native plantings were installed to blend the open areas with the surrounding forested areas.
Simultaneously along with saving the old cabin, we designed an alternative site plan that allowed for future redevelopment of the property with a larger main residence and landscape to ensure that there was value beyond the small old cabin. This plan at the time would have been to move this structure do a different location on the same site and use as an auxiliary guest cabin.
The cabin itself was stripped down the studs. The framing was painted and cleaned up to become part of the interior finish and not something to be hidden away. While the foundation and framing were saved much of the other finishes, windows, doors and fixtures were replaced to bring the cabin up to date.
