Lake Sunapee Residence
db was hired to design the landscape for a custom lakefront home on Lake Sunapee, designed by
Frank Anzalone Architects. The narrow, curving site presented significant design and
permitting challenges due to its proximity to the water and tight setback constraints.
Working closely with the clients, architect, and builder, the db team developed a comprehensive
site plan integrating waterfront access, circulation, and outdoor living spaces. The design process extended through full permitting with NHDES, including shoreland and wetland approvals, as
well as local erosion control and ground disturbance permits.
The project also included permitting for a new boathouse, dredging for the boat slip, and a
three-slip floating dock, all seamlessly integrated into the natural shoreline setting.
Following design and permitting, db was invited to oversee landscape construction, collaborating
with a team of skilled craftsmen, contractors, and specialists. From stone masons to horticulturists, the collective effort reflects the truth that “it takes a village” to create a timeless, well-built landscape. Today, the clients are enjoying their home as the extensive native plantings begin to mature and settle naturally into the lakeside environment.
